We are pleased to announce that Stek has further strengthened its position as a leading energy sector firm in the Netherlands with the appointment of Veii Jacobs as Regulatory partner and Michaël Rijnja as Corporate Energy counsel, effective 1 January 2024. With their appointment, Stek’s multidisciplinary Energy Team (regulatory, corporate and (project) finance) has grown to more than 25 lawyers (including 7 partners and 2 counsel).
The energy transition is in full swing. Complex new regulation, projects with multiple stakeholders, and multifaceted commercial contracts and financing demand an integrated approach and a deep understanding of and immersion in the energy sector. This is where our attorneys thrive.
Veii is an administrative law expert. She advises and litigates on predominantly energy law matters (renewables, heat, electricity and gas) and environmental law (environmental regulations and spatial planning law). Veii represents large energy companies, industrials, grid operators and their respective industry associations in guiding legal proceedings vis-à-vis authorities and regulators and she works closely together with other members of the multidisciplinary Energy Team pertaining to the administrative law aspects of (renewable) energy projects and transactions (solar, wind, geothermal energy, green hydrogen, battery storage and CCS/CCSU).
Jan Erik Janssen (partner Regulatory): “Veii has been instrumental in the success of our integrated Energy Team in recent years. I very much look forward to co-leading the regulatory practice with her.”
Michaël is an expert in corporate law and M&A transactions. Michaël previously worked at Stek for over five years. He is now rejoining Stek after two years in an in-house M&A role at Van Lanschot Kempen. He will further strengthen our energy projects and M&A practice. He has over 14 years of experience in corporate law and M&A transactions, acting for private equity firms, large corporates and financial institutions on domestic and cross-border transactions and joint ventures.
Reijnoud Homveld (partner Corporate Energy): “We are thrilled to have Michaël back. He is an excellent lawyer with a pragmatic and down to earth approach. We have previously worked together seamlessly on multiple energy transaction projects, including heat projects and wind and solar deals. We look forward to further expanding our corporate energy practice together with Michaël.”
