This short article discusses the plans of the Dutch government to prohibit the generation of electricity by means of coal. This plan is laid down in a consultation version of the ‘Act prohibition on coal for electricity production’ and provides for grace periods until the end of 2024 for the two oldest coal-fired power plants and until 1 January 2030 for the three new power plants in The Netherlands.
